Answer First
The CHISEN OPzV2-1000 2V1000Ah is a 2 V tubular-plate gel stationary cell rated at 1000 Ah on the 10-hour rate (C10, to 1.80 V/cell at 20 °C). It is built for telecom DC panels, UPS strings and solar storage buses needing multi-hour backup inside a maintenance-free enclosure, and every number a buyer needs is published: float 2.23 V/cell at 25 °C, equalise 2.35 V/cell at 25 °C, a designed float life of 20+ years at 20 °C, temperature compensation of −3 mV/°C/cell, 73.2 kg per cell, 233 × 210 × 681 mm, and 0.5 mΩ internal resistance.
The decision is arithmetic before it is chemistry. A 24-cell string on a 48 V bus delivers 24 × 2 V × 1000 Ah = 48 kWh nominal, weighs 24 × 73.2 kg = 1,756.8 kg, and presents 24 × 0.5 mΩ = 12.00 mΩ of series resistance. A 48-cell string on a 96 V bus doubles the energy and mass and doubles the resistance to 24.00 mΩ. If those three lines do not fit your cabinet, your floor and your shipping budget, a different capacity in the same range is a better answer than a different brand.
Key Takeaways
- Capacity is defined by rate, end voltage and temperature. 1000 Ah at C10 to 1.80 V/cell at 20 °C means the 10-hour discharge current is 1000 Ah ÷ 10 h = 100 A per cell. A quotation that omits the rate, the cut-off voltage or the reference temperature is not comparable, whatever the head price says.
- Two charge recipes, not a contradiction. The stationary setpoints are 2.23 V float and 2.35 V equalise per cell at 25 °C. The solar and wind table on datasheet page 2 publishes its own controller settings, including a 2.27 ± 0.005 V/cell float setting and 2.40 ± 0.01 V/cell regulation voltage, because a renewable charge controller manages the array while a stationary charger manages the bus. Use the recipe that matches the charge source feeding the OPzV2-1000 2V1000Ah.
- Thermal management buys the float life. The 20+ years at 20 °C figure is measured at 20 °C, not at the 40–50 °C found inside a sealed cabinet in Mombasa, Karachi or Dubai. −3 mV/°C/cell compensation, forced ventilation and a room temperature budget are line items, not options.
- Series resistance scales with the string. 24 × 0.5 mΩ = 12.00 mΩ means a 48 V string carrying 100 A drops 12.00 mΩ × 100 A = 1.2 V, or 2.5 % of bus voltage. When that drop is not acceptable, the answer is parallel strings, not a different chemistry.
- Weight is a design constraint, not a packing detail. At 73.2 kg per cell, one 48 V OPzV2-1000 string weighs 1,756.8 kg and one 96 V string weighs 3,513.6 kg. Floor loading, handling equipment, cabinet tier height and freight class all follow from that number.
- The paper trail is part of the cell. Before signature, request IEC 60896-21/22, DIN 40472, IEC 61427, YD/T 1360, BS 6290 part 4, UL 1989 and Eurobat long-life evidence for the product, plus the ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and GB/T 28001 certificates of the manufacturing operation.

Four rows deserve more than a table cell because they drive acceptance. Float charge voltage 2.23 V @ 25 °C and equalise charge voltage 2.35 V @ 25 °C set the charger configuration; a charger configured above the published 2.23 V float setpoint will quietly overcharge the OPzV2-1000 2V1000Ah and shorten its life, so the charger setpoint belongs in the purchase specification and in the commissioning sheet. Designed float life 20+ years at 20 °C is the number your client’s asset register needs, but it is conditional: it assumes float operation at the published voltage, a controlled room temperature and periodic inspection. Temperature compensation −3 mV/°C/cell is what keeps that condition true in Cairo, Chennai or Durban, where an uncompensated float is effectively a float plus overcharge for most of the year.
The rest of the table supports three decisions. Sizing: OPzV2-1000 capacity is 1000 Ah at C10, so 100 A is the sustained 10-hour current per cell, and the max charge current of 200 A caps what the rectifier may deliver. String resistance: 0.5 mΩ per cell becomes 12.00 mΩ across 24 cells, which must be budgeted against the acceptable voltage drop at the load’s rated current. Logistics and enclosure: 233 × 210 × 681 mm and 73.2 kg set the cabinet tier height, the plinth rating, the handling method and the freight class of every shipment to Shanghai, Rotterdam, Jebel Ali, Santos or Mombasa.
§2 — The Pain
The procurement problem is never finding a 1000 Ah cell. It is that the three quotations in front of you look interchangeable and are not.
First, the headline capacity of the OPzV2-1000 is not a specification. Every supplier can print “1000 Ah”. Only one of them may print 1000 Ah at C10 to 1.80 V/cell at 20 °C, which is the condition the OPzV2-1000 2V1000Ah datasheet publishes. A cell rated at a different rate, or quoted with the temperature left off, delivers less usable energy in a hot cabinet in Lagos or Karachi than the number on the invoice suggests. Compare on rated Wh at a stated rate, end voltage and temperature, or you are comparing nothing.
Second, the cabinet does not care what the cell is called. The published 681 mm height and 73.2 kg weight decide tier spacing, plinth design, aisle width and handling equipment. A room in Cairo, Buenos Aires or Rotterdam that was laid out for 12 V 100 Ah blocks will need a different rack entirely for 2 V cells of this size. Teams in Mexico, Peru and Chile lose weeks to this because the OPzV2-1000 cell geometry was never frozen before the room was built.
Third, series resistance is the item most often omitted from the comparison. At 0.5 mΩ per cell, 24 cells give 12.00 mΩ. On a 48 V bus at the 100 A C10 rate that is a 1.2 V drop in the OPzV2-1000 string, and on a 96 V bus with 48 cells it is 2.4 V at the same current. Where the acceptance test measures end-of-discharge voltage at the terminals, that drop comes straight out of the usable backup hours.
Fourth, the paperwork gap. Telecom tenders in China, India and Vietnam ask for YD/T 1360; European buyers ask for IEC 60896-21/22 and DIN 40472, with BS 6290 part 4 for the United Kingdom; solar integrators in Australia, Chile and Morocco ask for IEC 61427; North American projects ask for UL 1989. A cell that arrives with a generic certificate set cannot be put into service, however good the OPzV2-1000 is. And every 73.2 kg unit travels as UN2794 Class 8, so the packing list and safety data sheet are part of the delivery, not an afterthought.
§3 — The Choice
The OPzV2-1000 2V1000Ah should be chosen against its neighbours in the OPzV gel range, not against a generic 1000 Ah label. The published dimensions differ measurably across the range — 166, 254, 233, 275 and 487 mm in length, 206, 210 and 212 mm in depth, and 506 mm to 831 mm in height — so cabinet fit and handling method change with capacity.
| Model | Voltage | Capacity | Dimensions L×W×H (mm) | Weight | Internal resistance | Max. charge current |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| OPzV2-500 | 2 V | 500 Ah | 166 × 206 × 506 | 36.3 kg (80.0 lbs) | 0.56 mΩ @ 25 °C | 100 A |
| OPzV2-700 | 2 V | 700 Ah | 254 × 210 × 506 | 51.0 kg (112.5 lbs) | 0.55 mΩ @ 25 °C | 140 A |
| OPzV2-1000 | 2 V | 1000 Ah | 233 × 210 × 681 | 73.2 kg (161.4 lbs) | 0.5 mΩ @ 25 °C | 200 A |
| OPzV2-1500 | 2 V | 1500 Ah | 275 × 210 × 831 | 102 kg (225 lbs) | 0.45 mΩ @ 25 °C | 300 A |
| OPzV2-2500 | 2 V | 2500 Ah | 487 × 212 × 807 | 181 kg (399 lbs) | 0.3 mΩ @ 25 °C | 500 A |
Reading the same range as a 48 V string shows what the OPzV2-1000 2V1000Ah actually buys and what it costs.
| Model | 24 × weight | 24 × internal resistance | 24 × max charge current | Nominal energy |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| OPzV2-500 | 24 × 36.3 kg = 871.2 kg | 24 × 0.56 mΩ = 13.44 mΩ | 24 × 100 A = 2,400 A | 2 V × 500 Ah = 1,000 Wh |
| OPzV2-700 | 24 × 51.0 kg = 1,224.0 kg | 24 × 0.55 mΩ = 13.20 mΩ | 24 × 140 A = 3,360 A | 2 V × 700 Ah = 1,400 Wh |
| OPzV2-1000 | 24 × 73.2 kg = 1,756.8 kg | 24 × 0.50 mΩ = 12.00 mΩ | 24 × 200 A = 4,800 A | 2 V × 1,000 Ah = 2,000 Wh |
| OPzV2-1500 | 24 × 102 kg = 2,448.0 kg | 24 × 0.45 mΩ = 10.80 mΩ | 24 × 300 A = 7,200 A | 2 V × 1,500 Ah = 3,000 Wh |
| OPzV2-2500 | 24 × 181 kg = 4,344.0 kg | 24 × 0.30 mΩ = 7.20 mΩ | 24 × 500 A = 12,000 A | 2 V × 2,500 Ah = 5,000 Wh |
The 1000 Ah cell sits in the middle of that table and that is precisely its argument. Against the 500 Ah cell, the OPzV2-1000 2V1000Ah halves the number of cells needed for the same energy while reducing the string resistance from 13.44 mΩ to 12.00 mΩ, because a larger cell carries more current with less loss per cell. Against the 1500 Ah cell, it saves 2,448.0 kg − 1,756.8 kg = 691.2 kg of installed mass on a 48 V string and 1,382.4 kg on a 96 V string, and it fits a shorter cabinet at 681 mm instead of 831 mm. Against the 2500 Ah cell it avoids a 487 mm long, 181 kg unit that no standard small-parts handling trolley will move.
Mass energy density is the tie-breaker that is usually quoted wrongly: 27.3 Wh/kg for the OPzV2-1000 2V1000Ah (2,000 Wh ÷ 73.2 kg), against 27.5 Wh/kg for the 500 Ah and 700 Ah cells, 29.4 Wh/kg for the 1500 Ah cell and 27.6 Wh/kg for the 2500 Ah cell. The 1500 Ah cell is the most efficient per kilogram, but it is also the heaviest per cell and the tallest; the 1000 Ah cell is the better compromise when the constraint is a cabinet in Warsaw, Singapore or Ningbo rather than a shipping weight.
The wider OPzV gel portfolio is documented on the CHISEN tubular gel battery range page, and the next capacity step is covered separately on the OPzV2-1500 2V1500Ah page for buyers who need more energy per cell rather than more cells.
§4 — The Framework
Five checks, applied in this order, decide whether the OPzV2-1000 2V1000Ah is correct for your site.
1. Fix the bus and count the cells. A 48 V DC bus is 24 cells, a 96 V bus is 48 cells. Each cell contributes 2 V, so 24 × 2 V = 48 V and 48 × 2 V = 96 V. This is the number that determines everything else in the quotation, and it should be fixed before any OPzV2-1000 is quoted.
2. Size on the rate you will actually discharge at. The 10-hour rate gives 100 A per cell: 1000 Ah ÷ 10 h = 100 A. On a 48 V bus that is 48 V × 100 A = 4,800 W, so 4.8 kW continuous for ten hours from one string. Stored energy is 24 × 2 V × 1000 Ah = 48,000 Wh = 48 kWh nominal, and the string weighs 1,756.8 kg.
3. Budget the resistance. 24 × 0.5 mΩ = 12.00 mΩ for a 48 V string, 48 × 0.5 mΩ = 24.00 mΩ for a 96 V string. At 100 A the drop is 12.00 mΩ × 100 A = 1.2 V, which is 1.2 V ÷ 48 V = 2.5 % of the bus. If the specification allows less than 2 % loss at the terminals, specify parallel strings and check the interconnects as well as the cells.
4. Set the thermal envelope. The published ambient windows are −40 °C to 65 °C on discharge, −30 °C to 65 °C on charge, and −25 °C to 45 °C for storage, with the 20+ years at 20 °C float life measured at 20 °C. Charge current is capped at 200 A per cell, so the rectifier on a 48 V string may deliver up to 24 × 200 A = 4,800 A into the bus. Where the room runs hot — Mexico City, Chennai, Cairo — specify ventilation and keep the compensation at −3 mV/°C/cell.
5. Match the charge source to the recipe. The stationary charger is set to 2.23 V float and 2.35 V equalise per cell at 25 °C. A renewable controller works to the datasheet’s own table:
| Setting | Value |
|---|---|
| Over voltage disconnect | 2.47 ± 0.01 V/cell @ 25 °C |
| Regulation / equalise voltage | 2.40 ± 0.01 V/cell @ 25 °C |
| Array reconnection voltage | 2.23 ± 0.005 V/cell @ 25 °C |
| Float voltage setting | 2.27 ± 0.005 V/cell @ 25 °C |
| Low voltage alarm | 1.95 ± 0.005 V/cell @ 25 °C |
| Low voltage disconnect | 1.90 ± 0.005 V/cell @ 25 °C |
| Load reconnect voltage | 2.09 ± 0.01 V/cell @ 25 °C |
| Temp. compensation coefficient | −3 ~ −5 mV/cell/°C |
| Charge condition | Constant charge 0.15 C_A − 2.40 V (20 °C) |
The same table fixes the discharge cut-off logic for the inverter, and the final voltage by discharge current tells you what the bus looks like at the end of a test:
| Discharge current I | Final voltage |
|---|---|
| I < 0.05 C | ≥ 1.90 Vpc |
| 0.05 C ≤ I < 0.08 C | ≥ 1.85 Vpc |
| 0.08 C ≤ I < 0.2 C | ≥ 1.80 Vpc |
| 0.2 C ≤ I < 0.6 C | ≥ 1.75 Vpc |
| 0.6 C ≤ I < 1.0 C | ≥ 1.70 Vpc |
| 1 C ≤ I ≤ 2 C | ≥ 1.60 Vpc |
The float test procedure on datasheet page 2 — 20–25 °C, discharge 0.25 C_A, cut-off 1.75 V/cell, end of life at 60 % or less of nominal capacity — is the acceptance test a buyer should write into the contract, because it defines exactly when the OPzV2-1000 2V1000Ah has to be replaced rather than when a supplier decides it has been.
§5 — The Trust
Trust is earned with documents that can be checked, not with claims. For the OPzV2-1000 2V1000Ah, the published compliance position covers both the product and the manufacturing operation.

Four documents should be requested before a deposit is paid. First, the type test report for IEC 60896-21/22 covering the specific OPzV2-1000, not the range. Second, the internal resistance and capacity test record for the delivered lot, with the reference temperature of 25 °C stated, so that the 0.5 mΩ figure and the 1000 Ah at C10 figure of the OPzV2-1000 can be verified rather than accepted. Third, the cell marking sheet, which confirms the Female Copper Insert M8 terminal, the 10–12 N·m torque figure and the container material, and which is also what your installers will use for the acceptance checklist. Fourth, the transport file — packing list, safety data sheet and UN2794 Class 8 declaration — because 73.2 kg per cell makes loading and stowage part of the delivery schedule to Mombasa, Durban, Colombo or Port Said.
Two further checks protect the buyer. Ask for the float life condition in writing — 20+ years at 20 °C with the 2.23 V float setpoint, the −3 mV/°C/cell compensation and the published ambient window. A warranty that is silent on the temperature condition is a warranty that will be argued about. And ask which factory and which test data will appear on the certificate of origin and the packing list; a supplier who cannot name the production site is telling you something about the supply chain.
§6 — FAQ
Q1. What exactly does the capacity rating of the OPzV2-1000 2V1000Ah mean? For the OPzV2-1000 2V1000Ah it means 1000 Ah measured at the 10-hour rate to a 1.80 V/cell cut-off at 20 °C, which is the datasheet condition. The corresponding sustained current is 1000 Ah ÷ 10 h = 100 A per cell. Any quotation that gives a different rate, a different cut-off voltage or no reference temperature cannot be compared against this one line by line.
Q2. Which charge voltage do I program into the rectifier? For stationary operation use 2.23 V per cell at 25 °C for float and 2.35 V per cell at 25 °C for equalise, with −3 mV/°C/cell compensation applied. For a solar or wind installation the datasheet’s own controller table applies, with a 2.27 ± 0.005 V/cell float setting and 2.40 ± 0.01 V/cell regulation voltage. The two sets serve different charge sources and are not alternatives for the same charger.
Q3. How much energy does one 48 V string actually hold? 24 cells in series give 24 × 2 V = 48 V, and 24 × 2 V × 1000 Ah = 48,000 Wh = 48 kWh nominal. At the 10-hour rate that supports 48 V × 100 A = 4,800 W, or 4.8 kW continuous for ten hours. A 96 V string of 48 cells doubles every one of those figures to 96 kWh and 9.6 kW.
Q4. What does the cell weigh, and what does that do to my floor and my freight? Each OPzV2-1000 2V1000Ah cell weighs 73.2 kg (161.4 lbs). A 48 V string therefore weighs 24 × 73.2 kg = 1,756.8 kg and a 96 V string 48 × 73.2 kg = 3,513.6 kg, before the enclosure. Specify the plinth and floor loading rating against those figures, plan for mechanical handling rather than manual lifting, and expect UN2794 Class 8 paperwork for every shipment.
Q5. How much voltage is lost in the string resistance? The published internal resistance is 0.5 mΩ per cell, so 24 × 0.5 mΩ = 12.00 mΩ for a 48 V string and 24.00 mΩ for a 96 V string. At 100 A the 48 V string drops 12.00 mΩ × 100 A = 1.2 V, or 2.5 % of bus voltage. If your specification requires a smaller drop, specify parallel strings and include the interconnect resistance in the same calculation.
Q6. Can the OPzV2-1000 2V1000Ah be cycled, and how much cycle life is published? Yes. The datasheet publishes approximately 5,500 cycles at 20 % depth of discharge, 3,100 at 40 %, 2,300 at 60 %, 1,800 at 80 % and 1,500 at 100 %. This is why the same cell serves a telecom float application in Kenya and a daily solar cycle in Brazil: the deep-cycle figure is the one to size renewable storage on, while the float figure governs standby duty.
Q7. What is the recommended storage and shipping regime for cells in transit? Self-discharge is approximately 2 % per month at 20 °C and the permitted storage window is −25 °C to 45 °C. Store in a dry, ventilated space away from direct sunlight and corrosive gases, and recharge on arrival if the consignment has been in transit or in store for more than a few months. For long-term storage, a periodic top-up at the published float voltage is the standard practice.
Expert Summary
The CHISEN OPzV2-1000 2V1000Ah is a 2 V, 1000 Ah tubular-plate gel stationary cell rated at C10 to 1.80 V/cell at 20 °C, with a 10-hour discharge current of 100 A, 0.5 mΩ internal resistance, 200 A maximum charge current, 2,500 A maximum 5-second discharge current and 5,400 A short circuit current. Published charge setpoints are 2.23 V float and 2.35 V equalise per cell at 25 °C with −3 mV/°C/cell compensation, and the designed float life is 20+ years at 20 °C. Each OPzV2-1000 2V1000Ah cell measures 233 × 210 × 681 mm and weighs 73.2 kg, giving 2,000 Wh and 27.3 Wh/kg per cell. A 24-cell string on a 48 V bus yields 48 kWh at 1,756.8 kg and 12.00 mΩ; a 48-cell string on a 96 V bus yields 96 kWh at 3,513.6 kg and 24.00 mΩ. Cycle life is approximately 5,500 / 3,100 / 2,300 / 1,800 / 1,500 cycles at 20 / 40 / 60 / 80 / 100 % depth of discharge, and self-discharge is approximately 2 % per month at 20 °C. For telecom, UPS and solar buyers the correct question is not which cell has the largest Ah rating, but which cell keeps its published voltage setpoints, its 20+ years at 20 °C float life and its acceptance test under the room temperature and cabinet geometry the project actually has.
